विवेचन:
जो प्रत्येक शरीरात निवास करतो आणि विश्वामध्ये चैतन्यरूपाने भरून राहतो, तो पुरुष. ‘पुरी शेते’ म्हणजे शरीररूपी पुरीत जो वास करतो, तो पुरुष असे म्हणतात. पूर्णत्व, जागरूकता आणि साक्षीभाव या अर्थांनीही हे नाव अत्यंत गूढ आहे.

जो शरीरामध्ये वास करतो.

**Depth of meaning<br> This is one of the most ancient and multi-layered names of the Supreme. The Puruṣa Sūkta of the Ṛg Veda (10.90) opens with this name, describing the cosmic Person from whom the entire universe emerges. ‘Puruṣa’ means both the individuated self (dwelling in the body-city) and the transcendent cosmic Person who encompasses and exceeds all. **Bhagavad Gītā (15.17)<br> ‘"Uttamaḥ puruṣas tv anyaḥ paramātmety udāhṛtaḥ / yo loka-trayam āviśya bibharty avyaya Īśvaraḥ"‘ — "But beyond these two (perishable and imperishable) is the Supreme Person (Puruṣottama), the inexhaustible Lord who pervades all three worlds and sustains them."
